Western Leyte College of Ormoc celebrated the Hugyaw on October 21, 2025, under the theme, “Optimizing Skills Through Dance”.
Western Leyte College once again came alive with the vibrant cheers and rhythmic beats of Hugyaw 2025, the annual celebration of creativity, teamwork, and school spirit. The eventkicked off with the Aerodance Competition and Cheerdance Competition, setting the stage for a day filled with energy, unity, and pure WLCian pride.
The morning program started with the Prayer, National Anthem, WLC Hymn, and Ormoc Hymn, followed by a warm and inspiring Welcome Message from the School Principal, Mrs. Jeaneme Chu-Arendain and theAcknowledgement of the Assistant Principal Mr. Rene Diaz, HS Culture and Arts Coordinator and Hugyaw Coordinator Mrs. AlaisahDelcoro.
The event featured Ms. Maria Isabela Tatiana Gabrielle, Queen of WLC 2024 2nd Runner-Up, who introduced the panel of judges for the Aerodance Competition. The Chairman of the Board then presented the criteria for judging before the competition officially began.
To the crowd’s surprise, a flash mob performance suddenly broke out, filling the venue with cheers, claps, and excitement. The spontaneous performance set the tone for the rest of the event energetic, unexpected, and full of school spirit.
Several intermission numbers added flair and entertainment between competition rounds, featuring talented students from Junior High School, Grade 7 Hope, and Grade 7 Optimism. Despite their young age, the performers impressed the audience with their confidence and energy.
The Aerodance Competition featured various Grade 11 sections, each impressing the audience with their synchronized movements and creative routines. After intense performances, the winners were announced as follows:
Champion: 11 STEM – Mendel
1st Runner-Up: 11 STEM – Einstein
2nd Runner-Up: 11 HUMSS – Socrates
3rd Runner-Up: 11 STEM – Linnaeus
Before closing the morning event, the dancers united for the Unity Dance Finale, symbolizing camaraderie and the true WLCian spirit of teamwork and respect.
In the afternoon, the competition continued with the Cheerdance Competition, where all 13 Grade 12 sections delivered breathtaking routines filled with stunts, flips, and infectious energy. Each team showcased creativity, discipline, and WLC pride in every move.
After a day of cheers and excitement, the winners for the Cheerdance Competition were revealed:
Champion: 12 STEM – Rutherford
1st Runner-Up: 12 STEM – Hubble
2nd Runner-Up: 12 STEM – Galilei
3rd Runner-Up: 12 HUMSS –Durkheim
The event concluded with loud applause and cheers from the audience as hosts thanked everyone for their support and participation.
HUGYAW 2025 once again proved that WLCians not only dance and cheer — they inspire unity, passion, and excellence in every performance.
